ASA Sisters: A Busy Bunch of Ladybugs

By Lindsey Martin

RSU’s Theta Eta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha recently attended an annual leadership conference called District Day held in Dallas on February 11th and 12th.

This year’s theme was “Leading through service”.Besides building friendships with other Alpha Sigma Alpha sisters, RSU’s chapter attended educational programming classes that focused on issues that benefit the local chapter in many ways by creating strong ladies who serve and lead with a purpose.

From classes like “Building a Bridge in Stilettos” and  “Footprint Leadership”, the ASA sisters were able to learn about using patience and understanding to handle conflicts.

In addition, they also recognized the talents and gifts that each person has within herself to make a difference in someone’s life because a person in her life inspired her.

The ladies learned more about one of the sorority’s national philanthropies, the S. June Smith Center, which helps children with disabilities to live life to its fullest potential.

ASA also held an informal recruitment March 1-5 in different locations all around the RSU campus. The sorority’s Vice President of PR and Recruitment, Jessica McQueen, led the events.
This year’s theme was “Party with the ASA’s!” The themes for the week included “It’s Showtime!”, “Mix It Up with ASA”, “Give a little, gain a lot”, and “Bet on the Best”.

During the events, the girls enjoyed coffee, cookies, and games. These activities helped girls to see what Alpha Sigma Alpha is all about and if it is a good fit for them during their college years.
In order for a local chapter of a sorority to run smoothly, it takes a lot of hard work from dedicated ladies.

They strive to make a difference in their communities during and after their college years because after all, it’s “not four years” it’s “for life.”
